We love hearing the many success stories and reading the five-star reviews from our EnergySage customers who go solar and save a ton of money on electricity bills! But, just like with any industry, there’s not a 100 percent success rate. One of the most important things you can do is find a trusted solar installer in your area so you don’t end up with solar panels that aren’t performing ideally. Check out this video from LDSreliance to learn how to avoid issues when going solar. (Spoiler alert: using EnergySage to get pre-vetted installers and easily compare quotes is one of the ways to go solar the right way!)
How to decide if you should go solar
While solar can save most homeowners money, it’s not for everyone. There are a few basic things to consider including your current electricity bills, the direction your roof faces, how big your roof is, and if your roof is shaded by nearby trees. Legit solar installers will take all of these things into consideration when creating your quote.
For example, a reputable solar installer may ask you if you’d be able to cut down trees if a substantial part of your roof is shaded by trees on your property. They should also help you design your solar panel system for optimal performance, accounting for the direction your roof faces as well as any shading at any times of the day caused by other homes, buildings, or trees.
An alternative if you can’t install solar panels
One important thing to remember is that even if you don’t own your home or your roof isn’t ideal for installing solar panels, you can still use solar by subscribing to a local community solar farm. While you’ll see the most savings if you can install solar panels on your home, you can still save up to 15 percent on your annual electricity bills with community solar.
